After a successful meeting on Darfur at the U.N. last week, the UN Secretary General made his comments to the press outlining the outcomes of the meeting and a joint UN/AU press communique was issued. One simple phrase stuck out to me from Secretary Ban Ki-Moon's words,
"As I have stated, justice is a part of the peace process, and these should go hand in hand."
Given that justice should be a part of the peace process and as the:
- 62nd UN General Assembly meets this week and will enter into discussions on Darfur,
- as aid convoys and villages continue to be attacked,
- and as the conflict spills over to displace people in Eastern Chad and Central African Republic,
the lines from the Book of Common Prayer collects for justice and peace seem relevant to pray....
"Almighty God, who created us in your own image: Grant us grace fearlessly to contend against evil and to make no peace with oppression; and that we may reverently use our freedom, help us to employ it in the maintenance of justice in our communities and among the nations..."
"Almighty God, kindle, we pray, in every heart the true love of peace, and guide with your wisdom those who take counsel for the nations of the earth..."
Share any prayers that you have so we may join together in one voice to stand in the gap.
